Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies mascara and Carly Cristman inspired hair

I have been trying out the Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies mascara for the past two weeks; a mascara which Maybelline describes as false lash glam in a tube and promises 300% more visible lashes. I got mine in blackest black from Priceline when they were having a Maybelline mascara sale (all for $10, I think the sale has ended now.)
Maybelline The Falsies mascara

The first time I used it, I found the product to be too runny and wet. It made it difficult to put a second coat on and it did smudge on my face. After about a  week I found it a lot easier to apply and the product wasn't as runny as before and I started to enjoy using this mascara. I also like the spoon brush as it allows the brush to grab every single lash you have. The mascara really does lengthen and extend your lashes and clumping doesn't seem to be a problem for me. However it does tend to flake and smudge on me at the end of the day.

Overall I like this mascara and it does make your lashes look beautifully long (the bf even asked me one day if I was wearing false lashes when I had this mascara on.) :p I do enjoy this product but I personally prefer something that is more volumising like the Covergirl Lash Blast mascara. I might try wear the two together and see how that goes.

On another note, I was watching a youtube hair tutorial video by the lovely Carly Cristman and decided to try it out. It's such a simple and easy way to jazz up your hair especially on a bad hair day. I rocked it with a bun since it's been so hot here! <3

Please click here if you would like to watch Carly's video! Enjoy :)

Pretty Little Liars inspired nails

On the latest episode of Pretty Little Liars the character Hanna Marin (played by the beautiful Ashley Benson) has her nails painted with red and black polish on alternating fingers. (For those who watch PLLs, I'm talking about episode 13 and you can really see her nails while she's eating her muffins. Oh! look out for her angel wings ring too while you're at it! I like!) So anyway after watching this episode I was inspired to paint my nails the same way but with colours that are more summer-friendly.

I think it's a really fun and different way to do your nails :)

On the subject of Pretty Little Liars, I was reading some articles online about the costume designer of the show. I love all the clothes that the girls wear and turns out the designer purchases some of the pieces from retail shops such as Urban Outfitter, Macy's and Forever 21. Some of the clothing pieces however do come from high end boutiques (especially Hanna's because that suits her character's personality.) I love Forever 21! I think it's equivalent to our Valleygirl and Temt here in Australia, but I find Forever 21 offers a wider range of style. Basically it's a place where you can snap up pieces seen fresh off the runway without hurting your wallet. I, however love the jewelry range the most, they have the most trendy and quirkiest range of rings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. Forever21.com does ship to Australia for a flat rate of $35USD if you spend more than $100USD. I think the best way to lower this shipping fee is to shop with your friends! Sharing is always caring :)

PS. A funny story I have about Forever21; a couple of days before I left for my US holiday I started having dreams of myself shopping at a Forever 21 shop, because I have never been in one before and I was so excited to go! :p

Urban Decay book of shadows Vol III

On my recent trip to the US, I got my hands on an eyeshadow palette by the brand Urban Decay. Unfortunately you can't get Urban Decay cosmetics as easily in Australia, I think there are a few websites that sell them but I find their range quite limited. This is my first Urban Decay eyeshadow and part of the reason I got it was for the eye-catching packaging :p (I'm a sucker for pretty packaging.) The palette comes with an upper part which you can lift up, revealing the skyline of a lit up New York City and other things that relate to the Big Apple (I got this from NYC so I thought it was perfect for me :D). The bottom part has a drawer that you pull up which contains the 16 eyeshadows, 2 eyeliners and a travel size primer potion.
The eyeshadows are incredibly pigmented and goes on very smooth. The colour range is amazing, I was going to choose a favourite, but I don't think I can :p I did some swatches using MAC Painterly paint pot as a base.

Eyeliners
I played around with it and did a look using Snatch on the inner lid, Rockstar in the crease and then Perversion also in the crease to deepen it.

The whole time I was playing around with my new toy my brain kept going 'soooo prettyyyy!' :) I love new toys!

Sidlefaye and Veruzchuska

I went for a haircut 2 days ago at a place called Sidlefaye in Victoria Park. The name of the place came from the names of the 2 owners, husband and wife (Sid and Lefaye). The place is lovely; chic with a touch of vintage... you can also book an appointment with them through facebook, which I thought was pretty handy :). Lefaye was the one who cut my hair, she started off by washing it and unfortunately got water all over my back. She was very apologetic and sweet about it, she even took the time to dry me off using her hairdryer. So I didn't really mind, besides it was very hot that day, my top dried right off. I liked the way she cut and styled my hair; it was a refreshing change to have my hair styled with a slight blow wave rather than the usual pin straight hair you get from other Asian hairdressers. The other thing I noticed was that they didn't try to sell me hair products as they were cutting my hair; which I thought was wonderful. The only 'complaint' I have about my experience there is that they don't accept credit cards or eftpos (I'm not sure whether this is a temporary situation as they have just opened the place.) Overall I really enjoyed getting my hair cut there and Sid and Lefaye were lovely.

Layers, layers!
By the way here are pictures of my nails painted with Zoya 'Veruzchuska' (matte forest green). I used 1 coat of a clear base then 3 coats of the Zoya nail polish. So far so good, no signs of chipping. When you first paint your nails, the polish looks shimmery and shiny, but as it dries off it turns matte. Super cool to watch :p

No flash (I put one coat of a top coat on my pinky just to see what it'd look like)

Nail polish haul

I have recently developed an obsession... well maybe not an obsession but rather a strong fondness for nail polish. I purchased some OPI and Essie nail polishes online and ended up paying around $6-7 USD per bottle (that's including delivery to Australia). The website I bought these from is mbeautylounge.com, shipping took about 2 weeks and a half and they came in great condition.

From L-R (OPI): Black cherry chutney, Tease-Y does it, Bling dynasty, Done out in deco, Gargantuan green grape, Fair dinkum pinkum, Bubble bath

From L-R (Essie): Not just a pretty face, Merino cool, Sew psyched

Zoya: Veruschuka

I'm excited to try out these polishes, especially the Zoya matte polish (the deep green is amazing). Oh so many colours and not enough nails to paint them on! :p

First blog entry; an introduction

This will be my first blog post. I started this blog for the simple reason that I think I will enjoy it and also because I told a certain someone I would like to start a blog... one day. That day will be today; the first day of the new year. (Happy new year!)

I like everything about fashion and makeup although I have to admit I'm no expert, but this is what I will mainly write about and I guess everything in between. So look forward to entries from me in the future!

I'm signing off!
